Michael Behrens wurde 1973 in D\u00fcsseldorf geboren. 2003 erhielt er den Bachelor of Fine Arts von der Maastricht Academy of Fine Arts, Niederlande. W\u00e4hrend des Studiums fokussierte sich Behrens zun\u00e4chst auf Fotografie und Malerei, an der abstrakten Bildhauerei h\u00e4lt er jedoch bis heute fest. Er gr\u00fcndete 2006 sein eigenes Studio in D\u00fcsseldorf, wo er noch immer als K\u00fcnstler arbeitet und lebt. Zwei Jahre sp\u00e4ter, nach seiner ersten Soloausstellung in Paris, lud ihn die Ernsting Stiftung zu einer gemeinsamen Ausstellung ein. Die charakteristischen dynamischen Formen und Strukturen und die herausfordernden Farbkombinationen erhielten international Aufmerksamkeit. Behrens\u2018 Vision war und ist es \u201eObjekte zu schaffen, in denen die Energie der Natur sichtbar und sp\u00fcrbar ist.\u201c In diesem Sinne hat er bis heute f\u00fcnf Werkreihen geschaffen: Underwater World, Landscapes, Seaforms, Phoenix und Evolution. Seit 2004 waren die Arbeiten in \u00fcber 200 Einzel- und Gruppenausstellungen weltweit vertreten.<\/p>\n

Michael Behrens spielt mit Bewegung und Balance in massiven Objekten. Die Werkreihen Underwater World und Seaforms verk\u00f6rpern seine pers\u00f6nlichen Erfahrungen unter Wasser. Bewusst zuf\u00e4llige Formen umrahmen innere Strukturen, die in der Bewegung erstarrt scheinen. Matte und transparente Oberfl\u00e4chen wechseln sich ab und erzeugen eine Verbindung zwischen Innen und Au\u00dfen. Bei den Landscapes ist die Form durch die Natur vorgegeben und abstrahiert in den Wandpanelen dargestellt, unterlegt durch Strukturelemente auf der mehrschichtigen Oberfl\u00e4che. Mit Phoenix fokussiert sich Behrens vollends auf die abstrakte Formsprache in seiner bildhauerischen Arbeit. Jedes Objekt ist undurchsichtig, so wird der Blick auf die Konturen und Oberfl\u00e4chen gelenkt. Mit der Evolution-Werkreihe kehrt Behrens zum expressiven Wechselspiel von \u00e4u\u00dferer Form und Struktur zur\u00fcck, setzt hier die bildhauerische Sprache ein in der Frage nach der Abh\u00e4ngigkeit zwischen dem Menschen und der Natur. \u00dcber die Jahre hat Michael Behrens einen eindeutigen und charakteristischen Stil entwickelt und wurde damit zu einem der anerkanntesten deutschen Bildhauer in seinem Bereich.<\/p>\n

Passende Studior\u00e4ume zu finden, um spezielles Equipment wie die Schmelz\u00f6fen zu nutzen, war ein wichtiger Grundstein in Behrens\u2019 Karriere. Im D\u00fcsseldorfer Studio werden alle Hauptarbeiten durchgef\u00fchrt: die Materialvorbearbeitung, das Erstellen des Modells und der Schmelzformen, der Schmelz- und Abk\u00fchlvorgang im Ofen, und schlie\u00dflich das Entkernen der Skulptur und die Nachbearbeitung durch Schleifen. Finalisiert werden die Objekte durch hochqualifizierte Schleifer in der Tschechischen Republik. Der gesamte Prozess zur Erschaffung dieser Skulpturen ist zeitaufw\u00e4ndig und anspruchsvoll, denn Ungeduld oder Abweichungen werden selten verziehen. Von Anfang an begann Behrens sich daher technisches Wissen und Fertigkeiten anzueignen, die ihm erlaubten mit dem Material zu experimentieren, so dass schlie\u00dflich eine neue Klasse an ofengeformten Objekten entstand.<\/p>\n
